Girl Power at the Hotel Monaco
Hotel Monaco was our home form home for a night in Munich to visit the Christmas Markets. We were welcomed by a lovely lady named Christine, who is also one of the hotel's owners. After signing for the necessary keys she showed us to our room and let us settle in. She also handed me the remote control for the TV, claiming that here at the hotel "the women have the power". A joke, of course, and a great way to feel at home with someone who knows how to have fun. On some websites the Hotel Monaco is described as a hostel but actually it is both combined and guests can choose whether they want a private or shared bathroom. We had a standard double room with private bathroom. We settled in well. The room was a nice size and it was light and airy, although it was hard to see down onto the street because the window was a little bit too high. Since we were on the top floor, I suppose the window acted more like a skylight. The room was basic but spotlessly clean, which I have found comes as standard with many German hotels. I could sense that the owner really took pride in her hotel, reflected through the little touches in our room like bows on the curtains and a little plant pot on the desk. Although we didn't have any questions, it's easy to know that if there were indeed any, Christine would have gone out of her way to help. It was Christmastime (and therefore -5° outside!) but the room was still warm and the bed was comfortable. The bathroom consisted of shower, basin and toilet, and again was basic but clean. Just one slight problem was that the bathroom door had a gap of about 2cm at the bottom, and since it was tiled rather than carpeted, business in the bathroom can become less-private than required! The breakfast was tasty and was typically German - meaning that you have a selection of meats, marmalades, cereals, breads and yoghurts. It was served in a room to the side of the reception, was decorated plainly but artistically, and had christmas decorations around. There was also a lovely Christmas-tree just outside the room. I would recommend Hotel Monaco for any traveller that likes a home-from-home feel and who enjoys a bit of a chat. It would be suitable for all types of travellers and the selection of room-types means it also suits a variety of budgets. Hotel Monaco was a great little place to stay and provided us with everything we needed during our short stay; no fuss and a friendly atmosphere! [more] |
