Tokyo's Flashy Midtown Complex
Tokyo Midtown in the heart of Roppongi is basically the world's flashiest mall, with a range of upmarket designer stores and a five star hotel right in the middle of it. It's also the only place in Japan where I actually managed to find a square watermelon (as well as one shaped like a pyramid). It's not just a mall, however, it also houses several art and design institutions, such as the Tokyo design Hub which usually has free exhibitions. To the back of it is a beautiful park with an outside coffee shop and occaissional stage. The most impressive thing about the Midtown complex, however, is the building itself, which is completely awe-inspiring - shiny, Japanese sky-scraping architecture at its best.
