Iquitos - Momon River Yahua Indians' village
There are a few native villages on the outskirts of Iquitos – up to the Boras Indians in San Andres. I visited the Yahua (or Yagua) Indians and surely it was nice to see their typical huts and learn how to shoot poison darts with a blowgun. I was very welcome – and painted in the face with red colors obtained from the achiote seeds. This is actually the meaning of Yahua, the “reds” because they painted their body red.
Since I was the only visitor at the time – in the end I was literally surrounded by everyone trying to sell me all kinds of artisan items, some more “plastic” than others. Already at the airport I still had red paint in my face…
