The Rainforest Cafe in Atlantic City
The Rainforest Cafe in Atlantic City is right on the famous Boardwalk. It is right next to Caesars, and it's literally moments from the beach. As you enter, there is a pool with an animatronic crocodile. This theme carries on throughout the restaurant. For those of you who've been to other Rainforest Cafes, it's very similar to those. For those of you who haven't, it's definitely a theme restaurant. The ceiling is low and it's hung with thick fake vines and vegetation. You wind your way through large imitation tree trunks and large aquariums filled with real fish to get to your table. Along the walls, there are animatronic jungle animals. Most notable are the elephants and the gorillas. Every 10 minutes, the animals "come to life" with sounds and movement. Every 30 minutes, the entire restaurant has a "thunderstorm": there is thunder and lightning effects. It's a novel experience and it's fun for groups and families. I wouldn't want to eat there every day, but it's fun and lighthearted. The food isn't bad. In Atlantic City, there are a number of really high quality, "starred" restaurants. This isn't one of them. That being said, the food is good (though a bit salty for my taste) and the portions are huge, so you can take food home with you to have the next day for lunch. Prices for entrees start at around $10.99 and go up to $24.99. They have burgers, salads, steak and a handful of seafood dishes. The famous dessert is the Volcano, which is popular for birthdays. As you enter and leave the restaurant, you'll see the replica Volcano dessert, complete with silver sparkler coming from the middle. Also as you enter and exit the restaurant, you'll walk through the gift shop. You can get anything you want with "Rainforest Cafe" emblazoned on it.
