Glasgow's Sunshine Epicentre
There is a very good reason why the whole population of Glasgow's West End flock to Kelvingrove Park at the first sign of sunshine. In Scotland every sunny day has to be seized with both hands since you don't know when there'll be another one, and if you want to make sure you have a good time then round up company, and preferably a barbeque, and head to the park. Or take a book, or feed the ducks (though they try to discourage that now unfortunately), or do whatever you do in parks. Kelvingrove a very pretty and for the most part well maintained, and even though it's so central you feel totally cut off from the drabness of the city. What makes it so special is the way it brings everyone together, something which is particularly evident at times such as the West End Festival, which takes place every summer. The counterside to this however is that the park can sometimes get a bit crowded, and by evening time there's usually a fair amount of rubbish kicking about. Oh, and don't go there at night. Seriously. [more] |
