A Taste of Whisky

 stars
Uisge Beatha (I'll leave you to guess the pronunciation) is one of the few places in Glasgow, or at least the West End of Glasgow, where people actually go to drink whisky. Whenever people are visiting from elsewhere I always take them there as a tokenistic "Scottish" pub, Scottish Pub in this instance being defined as a place where you are quite likely to either see men in kilts or hear someone playing the fiddle. The whole pub is fairly sprawling, spread out as it is over three rooms, and even then it still gets pretty crowded. It is particularly noteworthy for its bizarre decor which ranges from mounted deer heads to a Margaret Thatcher dummy. As mentioned, there is regualar live music which is almost always folky, and there's a pretty good pub quiz on a Wednesday. It's also refreshing to be somehwere which attracts a genuine mix of people and not just students or yuppies. [more]
