San Francisco Silent Film Festival

5.0 stars

Pictures Worth a Thousand Words

I don't know of how much interest this wil be to anyone else, but I really love silent films and I was super excited when I found out about the Silent FIlm Festival. I had no idea that any such thing existed and when I got there I assumed the place would be pretty much empty, but on the contrary you had to really fight for seats. Even better, a significant portion of the audience came dressed in 1920s clothing! It's worth going for that even if you don't care about the films. The festival only lasts a weekend, but a lot of people go to every screening and it creates a great atmosphere because it seems to be one of the rare occassions where you get to know your fellow cinema-goers. All of the films are accompanied by impressive live music, and a number of special guests and film celebrities turn up.

The only downside of it is the price - at $14 a ticket it makes for a pricey weekend but if there is anyone out there that really loves silent cinema then it's not too be missed. I wish I could go every year. [more ]
