The Hotel Chelsea
The Hotel Chelsea (more commonly known as the Chelsea Hotel) is on a fairly uninspiring stretch of West 23rd Street. It's easily spotted by the large lighted sign. Don't look for the word Chelsea - the 5 story sign features the word Hotel. The 12 story, red brick apartment has an air of a woman a dozen years past her prime, but still lovely in many ways and perhaps even more intriguing because of the age and the careworn look to it.
This is a hotel that has seen things. Bob Dylan stayed there and wrote songs. Jack Kerouac stayed there and while there, he typed a book you may have heard of - On the Road. Eugene O'Neil, Jimi Hendrix, the Grateful Dead, all of these...
