TGI Friday's in Vienna: Nothing special, just a hot meal
Those who have followed my travels know that I prefer to dine in the non-chain restaurants. However, when traveling with others I am often forced to acquiesce to those desiring “Western” or "recognizable" (to main-stream Americans) cuisine. During a week-long visit to Vienna, my traveling companion and I dined at TGI Friday’s on Schubertring 13. Minus the Austro-German language, I felt as if I were sitting in TGI anywhere USA. The setting was all American, the menu was all American, and the music was all American. Don’t get me wrong, I love the USA. However, whilst traveling abroad I prefer to enjoy being “abroad”. There was nothing really remarkable about our experience except that the service seemed exceptionally slow for a 5:30pm dinner seating (we were the only people in our section). Our order was not that difficult (the “three for all” special) but took nearly 45 minutes from order to table! The food was good—for a TGI Friday’s. I can’t NOT recommend it as it definitely offers good American cuisine. However, if you are looking to top off a great visit to beautiful Vienna with a great dining experience—keep moving. There are plenty of fine Austrian restaurants just down the street! [more] |
