The Gorge Walk takes your breath away
Only 30 minutes drive from Brisbane CBD is Cleveland that is a launching pad for a barge that takes you and your vehicle to North Stradbroke Island in less than an hour. A water taxi is slightly faster spending merely 20 minutes to the journey. “Straddie” is sparsely inhabited and has sealed roads, unlike it's neighbouring Moreton Island, that is only accessible by four-wheel drive. The island fills with tourists and, especially, locals, during the peak seasons. The best look-outs, beaches and surf is on the northeast corner around Point Lookout. The Gorge Walk gives stunning views down on the crystal clear ocean and the marine life that occupy these waters: dolphins, manta rays, sharks, and - of course - whales. This location is one of the best in the whole country to follow them migrating between the months of May until November. The gigantic waves beat the rocks underneath the cliffs. Kangaroos and wallabies can be also spotted along the path. [more] |
