Insights into Kenya’s Freedom struggles at Ruringu Stadium
Ruringu Stadium is largely a sports facility that also alternatively serves as a meeting venue for cultural exhibitions, public meetings and agricultural shows. However, as I came to realize, the stadium’s significance to Kenya’s political history is more than meets the eye. It is actually at the Ruringu Stadium that most of the Kenyan freedom fighters, also known as the MAU MAU, were disarmed after Kenya gained independence from colonialism. This explains why several freedom war monuments are erected in and around the stadium to serve as mementos for the freedom struggle.
