===Historical population===

In 1910 Budapest ("Little Budapest", not present Greater Budapest) had 880,371 residents (85.9% Hungarian, 9% German, 2.3% Slovak, 2.8% other). The distribution of religions were, 59.8% Roman Catholic, 23.1% Jewish, 9.9% Calvinist, 4.9% Lutheran, 2.3% other. Antisemites sometimes call Budapest Judapest (It's similar to Jew York, German word Juden means Jews), because at the turn of the century about one-fourth of the total population were Jewish (today only 0.5%).
