Caravaca de la Cruz
Caravaca is a lovely town. Set high up in the hills to the north of the city of Murcia, it is easy to find. It is the 5th Holiest City in the world and every seven years, thousands of people flock here for special celebrations and pilgrimmages.
We came for an overnight stay and were not disappointed. The city is large enough to offer a good choice of restaurants and bars ( I think we went for a Chinese, and it was good!) and there are lots of historical buildings to visit. The old quarter is particularly nice to walk around.
The castle here is lovely, and dominates the skyline of the city. We did not have time to go inside, but it looked lovely.There is also a museum of Religious Art and History on the site.
In addition, there is a convent in the town and the splendid Church of Salvador.
We didn´t do much here but walk, sit in the sun and enjoy admiring the buildings, but I would definitely return to Caravaca, and this time I´d go in the castle!
