Sparkling Wine and Copper Pans 4 stars
The beautiful Jurassic town of Cerdon is an absolute gem of a place to visit; tiny, un-touristy and unpretentious it is a network of little winding roads and small bridges over a scenic babbling brook set at the bottom of a deep valley overlooked by a statue of the Virgin Mary.

It’s main tourist attraction is that it is at the heart of a small wine growing area specialising in a delicious pink sparkling wine that many people prefer to champagne. The wine (named Cerdon) is not brilliantly well-known and a happy day can be spent touring the local vineyards for a “degustation”. The premises of all the “viticulteurs” are marked around the town with distinctive green signs.

Signage at most junctions also indicated the roads to follow to locate specific producers and there are also information signs around the area listing the location and contact details of the main “caves”.

One tip is to explore beyond the village of Cerdon a bit as lots of the surrounding villages (some reached along winding single-track roads through the vineyards) boast excellent wines.

The town is also home to France’s only copper factory which has a gift shop selling directly to the public.
