Cochem
Cochem is an attractive town on the Mosel River which includes a castle and a chair lift (the Sesselbahn) which takes visitors up to the top of a local hill on which the “Pinner Kreuz”, a large wooden cross, commands superb views out over the valley. The centre of the town is attractive with cobbled streets and half-timbered buildings.
The town is also surrounded by vineyards and is a good place to try the local Reisling with several wine tasting cellars. The expensive Eiswein (ice wine) is also produced nearby.
Boat trips along the Mosel are also available in summer.

Cochem town center
Cochem is a really nice place to go, but it is very important that you don't make my mistake of going there on a rainy day. The town has a nice central part with a cosy market square, old, but quite nice church and long river bank which is very nice for a walk. Of course, for me the greatest attraction in Cochem was the castle - Reichsburg Cochem, which stands on a high hill to the south of the town, but I was quite surprised to find that the whole town was a very pleasant place. Except the fact that it didn't stop raining even for a minute, and that me and my friends ended up looking for a shop where we could buy an umbrella. And it was Saturday and only the souvenir shops were opened...
Anyway, it was I nice trip - and it is a very good idea to go to the middle of the bridge over the Moselle river, there is a nice view to the town and the castle.
