Hot springs in Baños
Baños, around 3.5 hours´bus ride from the Ecuadorian capital of Quito, is the perfect place to spend a few days relaxing and getting back to nature.
The town, which lies nearly two metres up in the mountains, takes its name from the fact that it is blessed with plentiful natural warm springs and baths, renowned for their health-giving properties.
With a year-round spring-like climate of around 20 degrees, the small town provides plenty of opportunity for outdoor pursuits such as hiking and pony trekking.
There are any number of good-value places to stay, with the cheapest being centred around the bus station - just a couple of minutes´ walk from the scenic town centre.
After taking in some fresh air, you can treat yourself to a good meal and a few drinks in one of the many bars and restaurants in the centre.
