Enschede antique bookstore
Enschede has the cheapest bookstore for old and antique books I have ever seen in my life. Unfortunately I forgot its name but it can be easily found – a big bookstore of at least 2 floors in the Western part of the city center, at most 5 minutes walk to the North-West from the town hall. This bookstore is amazing – there are all sorts of books and not only in Dutch but also in English and even some in German. I found a big box full of maps and since I like maps very much I bought several of them for a funny price like 50 cent or similar.

Enschede
Enschede is a nice Dutch town very close to the border with Germany and can be a nice day trip from the towns of Northern North-Rhine-Westfalia and Southern Lower Saxony (and also from some parts of Holland, but actually the town isn’t better than Deventer or Arnhem or Zutphen, so it is not that good idea) .The town doesn’t have any great attractions, but offers some typical Dutch architecture and is very different from the German towns. The town hall is pretty having a strange tower with somehow curved shape. The town’s pedestrian area is quite big and has many nice shops (actually also quite cheap for the Netherlands).

Twente Enschede
If you´re in town and you´re a sport enthusiast you shouldn´t miss a game of Twente Enschede. This is a top league soccer club with a long tradition. The red jerseys usually play Saturdays/Sundays in the small Arke Stadium (holds 13,500 visitors). Tickets are affordable between €5 and €35, depending on the club they´re playing, clubs like Ajax Amsterdam obviously being more expensive. To go by public transport take bus line number 1 in the direction of the university and get off at Arke Stadion.

Enschede
Just a stone´s throw from the German border this is a sleepy littly town with genuine dutch feeling. You will find that it has a nice downtown shopping area which becomes truly buzzing on a Saturday when the farmers market is spread all over the area. Here you can buy anything from clothes pins to flowers, from huge lumps of Holland cheese to soap. Do not under any circumstances miss out on the fabulous fried fish with Pommes Spezial (french fries with ketchup, mayonaise and onions). You can easily go to Enschede by train from Germany (regional trains from Münster, apprx 1h) or from any dutch town (to Amsterdam apprx 2h).
