Reed islands
Need to make an emergency call from an island made out of reeds? Don´t worry, the local communities have built a reed telephone box! Whether it actually works is another matter, but these islands are a must-see. They were built by Peruvians trying to escape the fighting on the mainland who used layers upon layers upon layers of reeds. Watch where you put your feet, they could end up going through the island in some of the thinner patches. Families still live on the islands now although their income is almost exclusively from tourism. To survive they apparently tuck into lake duck and island bred guinea pig.
