Hornchurch
Hornchurch on the London/Essex border is a normal commuter-belt suburb of large houses and leafy roads but, if you’re passing through the area, the historic church of St Andrew’s with its distinctive green spire is worth a visit. The town is named after the church since, at its eastern end, it boasts the bust of a bull complete with horns, an unusual feature for a parish church and the origin and meaning of the effigy are not known.
The underground station is a ten minute walk from the town centre.
The town is also home to the Queen’s theatre and has a normal English high street with a mix of both big name shops and smaller more interesting independent shops, including a champagne and oyster bar and a boulangerie run by a French family.
