Istiklal's Fish Bazaar
The Balik Pazari is a short passage off Istiklal Avenue near the midpoint of the street and across from Galatasaray Lisesi. “Balik Pazari” literally means “fish bazaar,” and as expected with such a name, this place features a great variety of fish and seafood. I’ve never bought fish here myself, nor for that matter seen someone buy fish here; but I suppose people must, otherwise how is it still in business. In addition to fish, there are a number of tourist friendly shops selling typical Turkish souvenirs such as apple tea and Turkish delight. The passage is a particularly popular place to visit after a night out as street vendors offer fresh oysters. [more] |
