Jaipur - Post Office

It might seem strange to recommend a post office as a tourist attraction but I just had the most surreal time here. Even if you don't have anything to send it's worth visiting the post office on MI Road.
They advertise a parcel packing service which basically involves making envelopes out of pillow cases. It's fascinating to watch them work and apparently this isn't anything out of the ordinary.
I've never sent home Christmas presents in pillow cases before !!!!

Jaipur - Cinema

If you get the chance, Jaipur is the perfect place to see a Bollywood movie, especially if you go to the RAJ MANDIR CINEMA. There's usually a movie at 6pm and 9pm but check first.
You probably won't have a clue what's going on but it's great fun. The audience really get into it. Singing and dancing. If by anychance they are showing OM SHANTI OM, you absolutely have to go and see it. It's brilliant !

Jaipur - Sightseeing

If you haven't got that long in Jaipur and you want to see as much as possible, my suggestion would be to hire a tuk-tuk for half a day and hit all the sights in one morning (or afternoon).
I plumped for:
(1) PALACE OF THE WINDS - which unfortunately doesn't look half as impressive as the photo's suggest. Personally I wouldn't bother going in. The best part of the building is the outer structure which is best viewed from across the street (if you can dodge the traffic!). All tuk-tuk drives know the best photo spot and will drop you there for a few minutes.
(2) Amber Fort - wasn't quite as impressive as Jodhpur or Jaisalmer but I think I'm starting to be a bit spoilt. There are just so many amazing spots in Rajasthan. It's only open till 4pm so don't leave it too late to go.
(3) Jaigarh Fort - I preferred this one as there was a nice little climb to the entrance and if you like cannons you'd probably be interested to know that they've got the biggest one in the world.
In all Jaipur wasn't my fave city in Rajasthan but I still found some cool places to visit and it's a great place to take in a Bollywood movie (see seperate review).

Exploring Jaipur
Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan is a place you need to go to when you have a lot of time at hand. The place is fascinating and there is so much to see that you can't make a hurried trip out of it. Moreover traveling is so chaotic as there are no proper codes of traffic and whew it always seems like its rush hour...There are many ways that you can choose to travel around the place, an auto rickshaw, taxi, buses or even through the cycle rickshaw. I preferred going by the auto rickshaw as I can speak the local language or else there are high chances of you getting fleeced.
There is lots to see in Jaipur, and I started my tour with Jantar Mantar, which was built some 200 years ago. It's like an open air science observatory which shows the various movements of the sun, and some laws of physics. The Hawa Mahal, which has some 100’s of windows was built for the royal women to see outside world or so they say as they could roam around freely during those times. One splendid site was the Jai Mahal which is also called the Water Palace, as it is situated in the center of Man Sarobar Lake. The best time to visit this place is the late October or early November. The water in the Man Sarobar Lake is up to the brim and I could see the Jai Mahal, in the night when the reflection of the lights was cast upon the surrounding water body. The various forts Nahargarh, Jaigarh, Birla Temple, Central park, Albert Museum, Govind Dev Ji temple, are some of the things where you can explore.
Someday I would love to go back to revisit and re-explore the place since you can't get enough of it...Hmm, wonder when I will have spare time again, since I'm all set to leave!
