Amazon Forest's tree diversity
In the Amazon jungle one finds many different palm trees that produce among other the famous Açaí berries and the Pupunha (peach-palm). Along the Amazon River margins one sees many tall trees known as the sacred Ceiba to the Mayas, Java Kapok tree or Samaúma (Ceiba pentranda) as it is known in Brazil. This tree is considered the “Queen of the Forest” and it grows relatively fast, reaching normally 40 meters of height. The tallest trees may go to 90 meters.
